Mountaineering

Benefits | Spokane, WA

Years ago, mountaineers had to stay at base-camp for days ahead of an expedition to get used to the changing altitudes. Now, there’s an alternative to the traditionally lengthy on-mountain acclimatization process. What is it? Hypoxic training.

This pre-acclimatization method allows expedition teams to cut itinerary times by up to 50%, eliminating long, physically arduous, and financially costly acclimation periods on-mountain. It also improves safety and increases the probability of a successful summit attempt for Spokane mountaineers.

Reduce symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness.

How To Train

Spokane mountaineering training focuses on building your strength training resistance, increasing the amount of time that you can perform aerobic exercises, and upping the anaerobic exercise intensity. We recommend consistency for high-altitude activity (four to six days per week), particularly when training for mountaineering or related sports. Activity should mimic the altitude and intensity of the expected conditions (specificity). It might be a large adjustment in the beginning. However, it’ll become more comfortable as your body gets used to it.
